Catholic Women Organization
CWO was established in 1965 as an umbrella body for Catholic women in Nigeria (known as CWON - Catholic Women Organization Nigeria), in response to calls from bishops for organized lay women's involvement in Church life. It operates at parish, diocesan, and national levels, affiliating with international bodies like the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations (WUCWO), which coordinates global Catholic women's efforts for evangelization and human development. Similar groups exist in Malawi (established 1972) and other dioceses, promoting women's roles in family, Church, and society.
