About Mater Dei Parish, Transekulu
Mater Dei Parish, located at Community/New Generation Layout, Mgbowo Street, Trans-Ekulu, is a growing Catholic community dedicated to worship, evangelization, and service. Established in 2013 and announced by Bishop C.V.C. Onaga, the parish began at the residence of Lolo Pauline Ekowa, where the first Mass was celebrated on 20th August 2013.
From humble beginnings, the parish has expanded steadily—moving to its permanent site on 2nd March 2014, growing its zones and societies, and building strong spiritual and social structures for its members.
Mater Dei Parish is surrounded by St. Mary’s Parish Transekulu, St. Leo the Great Federal Housing, St. Anthony Parish New Generation Layout, St. Francis of Assisi Ugbene II, and SS Peter & Paul On-the-Height Ugbene-Abakpa (its originating parish).
The parish has been shepherded by Rev. Fr. Theodore Ozoamalu (Pioneer), Rev. Fr. John Chime (Immediate Past), and Rev. Fr. Col. Anthony Ozoani (Current Parish Priest), with notable achievements including the acquisition of the parish land, dedication of the church building, and construction of the parish hall and permanent canopy.
With vibrant Mass centers, active lay organizations, committed priestly leadership, and a united community of worshippers, Mater Dei Parish continues to grow as a spiritual home for Catholics within Transekulu and its surrounding neighborhoods.

Mater Dei Parish, located in Community/New Generation Layout, Mgbowo Street, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, is a vibrant and fast-growing Catholic community originally established to serve the expanding population within the area. The parish was created from SS Peter & Paul Parish, On-the-Height Ugbene-Abakpa, its originating parish.
It shares boundaries with St. Mary’s Parish Transekulu, St. Leo the Great Federal Housing Estate, St. Anthony Parish New Generation Layout, St. Francis of Assisi Ugbene II, and SS Peter & Paul On-the-Height.
Founding & Early Milestones (2013–2014)
Mater Dei Parish was formally announced by Bishop C.V.C Onaga during the 2013 Cathedraticum as one of four newly created parishes. The parish officially began on 19th August 2013 with the arrival of its pioneer priest, Rev. Fr. Theodore Ozoamalu, at the temporary Mass center located at the residence of Lolo Pauline Ekowa.

CMO & CWO Elections – 22 January 2014
The first executives of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO) and Catholic Women Organization (CWO) were elected, establishing the parish’s foundational leadership.
CYMO & CYWO Elections – 23 January 2014
Youth organizations (CYMO & CYWO) were formed with their pioneer executives elected to foster youth participation and spiritual growth.

Mater Dei Parish established zones along Nike Lake Road:
1. Zone 1 – Immaculate Heart Zone

2. Zone 2 – Our Lady of Mount Carmel Zone

3. Zone 3 – Regina Pacis Zone

Created later from Zone 4, covering Mgbowo Street toward Bishop Shanahan Road.
All organs, societies, and zonal leaders were inaugurated on 9th February 2014, followed by the First Parish Council Meeting on 20th February 2014.
Transition to Permanent Site
On 2nd March 2014, the parish moved from its temporary Mass center to its permanent site on Mgbowo Street. A solemn procession accompanied the relocation, and the first Mass was celebrated the same day in the renovated building.
